Definition and Clarification of Terms

Definitions of a Hunter vs an Observer

A Hunter constitutes a person that hunts a minimum of three animals or more on a safari. A person that hunts less than three animals on a safari will be deemed an observer and charged the regular observer daily rate for the full duration of their stay. The three animal rule does not apply to a hunter hunting any dangerous game.

Definition of Dangerous Game

Dangerous Game would be any of the species classified under either the Big Five or the Dangerous Seven.
These species include: Elephant, Cape Buffalo, African Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, and Crocodile.

Out of Good Will and a generous spirit, many of our safaris are donated to various nonprofit events to support a good cause or to enhance the future of the industry. Many are donated to conservation organizations, veteran’s organizations, schools, hospitals, the outdoor community, or medical-needs based events. These hunts are utilized to fuel the missions of a myriad of causes, so we feel that hunting less than three animals on a donated safari that is normally obtained at a massively discounted rate goes against the goodwill it was intended for. This is why we feel the need to create a clear distinction in the definition of a Hunter vs an Observer.

Definition of Daily Rates and Special Terms

The hunting concessions are all located in various different parts of Southern Africa and depending on your wish list, we will bring you to the area best suited to your safari and ensure a successful safari with top quality trophies and an experience of a lifetime. You have options on various hunting areas and different levels of lodging as per your preference. Road transfer to and from the nearest airport is included or as agreed upon before your safari commences.

“Plains game” refers to all the non-dangerous African animals such as Impala, Kudu, Zebra, Wildebeest, etc.

Daily rates cover accommodation in a comfortable, hunting lodge, gourmet meals, non-alcoholic drinks & snacks,  daily laundry, services of a qualified professional hunter plus team of trackers/skinners and field dressing and preparation of trophies (caping & drying). If you purchased a package deal, all these amenities are included. Should you wish to stay in a luxury lodge, please be sure to advise us well in advance. This will be quoted separately.

On a seven-day all-inclusive package, you will have seven bed nights included.

All road transfers during your hunt, hunting vehicles, recovery teams. Your ‘’PH’’ professional hunter will have good tripod shooting sticks, but if you favor a certain type, please be sure to bring it along.

We offer over 50 available species across all of our hunting concessions. The cost for each animal is called it’s “trophy fee”.

For available species and costs, please refer to the “Trophy Fees” section on our pricelist, or send us an e mail for a detailed list and quote.

Some species may occur on certain concessions only or the quality of some species may be better in some areas than others, therefore it is good to inquire from us should you not be 100% sure.
Should you wish to hunt or experience a specific part of South Africa, please let us know in advance.

No Two donated safaris may be done back to back, or as an extension to a safari trip that includes a safari with another safari operator either directly before or after your safari with us. Donation Based hunts are non-transferable without the express permission of Gerhart Outdoors.

Your Hunting Package / Daily Dates do not include the following:

Estimated cost is $950 each way per vehicle with a maximum of six persons per vehicle.

First Night in Johannesburg & In-Country Flight Assistance

Deidre Bekker – Africa Sky Lodge

Your first night will most likely be spent in Johannesburg due to the flight schedules not always being conducive to getting through customs and grabbing the last flight of the day to the designated airport nearest to the lodge we’ve selected for you. The folks at Africa Sky Lodge are amazing and have taken care of us and our clients for years. You can’t go wrong staying with them upon arrival.

Amanda Snyman – Travel Curators

A common question I get asked is regarding the airfare and when to purchase. I always recommend flying Delta into Johannesburg, but the year of your safari is when Ricus determines which lodge will best suite your specific needs. This is where Amanda comes in. She has been brilliant to work with the last few years and knows all of the tips and tricks to make the in-country flight seamless and easy.
