Helping to Set the Sun on Hunger in both South Africa & New Zealand
As a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit in the United States, IGY6 Veterans Benefit has worked closely with Gerhart Outdoors to develop this program. It is common knowledge that at the conclusion of a safari, there is meat left overs that the hunters in camp were not able to consume on their own. In many cases, this total can be in the hundreds of pounds! Often times the staff will receive some for their families as part of their employment package, leaving the rest to be donated or sold. Through our collaborative, both White Lion Safaris and Doddsy’s Hunting have agreed to donate the meat left over after the hunters leave camp and the lodge staff gets some for their families to combat malnutrition and famine in their respective countries.
Similar programs like this exist throughout the world, but we want to ensure that we do our part as well. Many of these programs are focused on one or two campuses or tribal lands. With the Fighting Famine program, we have spread meat throughout every province in South Africa, in Namibia, and on both the North and South Islands of New Zealand.
